The Carving Institute pays special attention to the relatively modern development of soap carving so that students can enjoy work that lasts for generations.

We have soap carvings made over 20 years ago that are still in excellent condition. Once again, it is all about careful preservation and this is covered as part of our curriculum.

It is recommended that students learn to carve with fruit and vegetables first. Soap as a medium requires a larger set of tools and techniques.

Students are taught to understand how different kinds of soap are suited to different purposes. Soap carvings can be colored using a batik process.
